Congratulations to the Fiscus department. It now has a new a Rationibis. An a Rationibis is a Secretary of finance, in charge of maintaining the accounts and expenditures of the FISCUS. His role in the finances of the Early Empire was considerable. Originally an office held by a freedman, from the 2nd century AD and the reign of Hadrian, Equestrians assumed total control. The a rationibus was rendered unnecessary by the comes largitionum of the 4th century AD. His powers will be to hire the various tax guilds to tax the SPQR (senatorial) provinces and insure the empire gets the money it needs, especially since the armies at the borders are crying out they are underpaid. The position is a Fasces 9 level compared to his previous level of Fasces 8 for the Frumentarii leader. If he maintains a moderate activity til June 1st, he will be eligible for the position of Rationalis (Fasces 10). In this post, I will add in the future other positions that will be under him.
