This film (starring David Hemmings, and now rather dated) showed a pitched battle at the end: is that battle supposed to be Ethandun ? If so, they depicted something similar to the testudo: the "point" of the English formation was protected with very large, pavice-like shields held overhead and overlapped. Earlier in the film, Alfred was shown looking at an ancient Roman book on tactics, in which that formation was illustrated.
