That sounds some what like the story of Bran "The Blessed". He was a legendary king of Britain who was killed by a poisoned spear to the foot. His head was buried under White Hill London, facing out to sea, to protect the nation. It was later dug up by Arthur because he wanted to be the only protector of Britain.
It just struck me as interesting that to such figures from diffent cultures would have such similar stories.
Just as a foot note Bran "The Blessed" is said to be the son of King Llyr (the same Lear that Shakespear wrote about).
