What I like about these weapons is the fact that they are given names in the poetry. Now I wonder: did every Viking give his sword a name? Or is this just a way to make a weapon play it's own role in a story? Has anyone heard of a battle-ax with it's own name? Is it a Germanic fashion? Did Romans and Huns do the same? Do some names reoccur through history? And if, which name is the most popular? I would call my sword lung-piercer. How about you? The sword I have on the picture is called the sword of the sun.
