The Pontifex Maximus calls a meeting of the college of Pontiffs and Augurs to outline his plans for the coming year.
Your eminences, thank you all for coming.
I wish to start off my year as Pontifex Maximus with a revision of our order ranks.
Over recent years it has become too easy to join the ranks of the priesthood or the college of Augurs and then to rest on one's laurels without maintaining one's piety and obligations to the gods.
It has come to my attention indeed that a number of priests and augurs passed the last year without making a single offering to the gods other than for personal self interest.
It is not sufficient to talk to our gods when we want something from them, "Oh Neptune I beseech you to protect my trade fleet from ruin!" is a crass misuse of your office, self-interest should NEVER be the reason a man joins the holy orders.
Therefore I have decided to embark on a plan to make those that wish to belong to the orders only those that truly intend to maintain their obligations to their offices.
Starting from this month, every priest will be required to make one offering of thanks, backed with at least 100 denari worth of donation each month and every augur will be required to make one augury backed with a donation of at least 200 D each month.
Those that hold both offices must do both, every month.
Priests and augurs that do not comply with this MINIMUM requirement will be removed from the order.
