The Daghda is the Father of the gods. His children are Oengus mac Og (Mabon in Welsh) whose daughter was Maga, wife of Cathbad and mother of Dechtire, who married Lugh to produce Cuchulainn.
Ogma, "god of binding", is the god of magic words (Ogham, the Old Irish alphabet) and poetry. He leads the dead to the Otherworld. His daughter Etain married Diancecht, god of healing and herbs.
Midir had a son Donn, "the dark one", god of the dead. Brighid (the prototype of St. Brigit), goddes of fertility, married Bres the Fomor-Danann son of the evil Balor. Balor's daughter Ethlinn was mother of Lugh, "the shining one." Lugh murdered his grandfather Balor.
