I wonder if you are reading the same ASC that I am. The 1066 entry is two pages long. It covers the Norse invasion, mentions the battle outside York (gate Fulford), the battle at Stamford bridge (by name), and then the battle "at the ancient apple tree": which must have been the point of traditional muster in that area where three Hundreds meet on Calbec hill: that's a name of the battle: as well as Senlac, Santlache, and Hastings. If Jim Bradbury's proposed theory is right, and the battle was fought on Calbec hill, then the name "battle of the Hoar apple tree" would actually be the more correct. The synoptic approach to the year 1066 also includes William's march on London, ravaging as he went; and the submission of London's best men. The tone of the ASC certainly conveys a feeling of loss and woe.
