    Lots of options ~ Egyptian gold text effects

    2MyWelcome8.gif

    There are loads of optional styles for previous tutorial, and here are several to play with. None of these use external plug-ins, trying to keep it simple for those who just want to learn PSP for now, and we'll get to plug ins another time (soon if there's interest, just ask) Option A)

    2MyWelcome9.gif

    Option A follows the complete tutorial except for the following changes :

    While text is still selected after step 8, go up to
    LAYERS-->MERGE-->MERGE ALL FLATTEN.
    Go to COLORS-->ADJUST-->HIGHLIGHT/MIDTONE/SHADOW.

    2adjustcolor.gif

    Use the following settings for incredible bright gold
    Shadow = 22, Midtone = 72, Highlight = 55, Linear method checked.
    Hit ok, deselect text, merge layers, crop image and follow steps for transparency, uploading to home when done.

    option B)

    2myWelcome3.gif

    Option B was created by skipping the selection-->none step, but still merged layers from step 9. While the file was merged (but notice that the drop shadow is not included, so this will not affect it) I went to COLORS-->ADJUST-->CHANNEL MIXER. A dialogue box should appear :

    I used the following settings in Channel mixer to get the silvered look:
    Red = -60, Green = -58, Blue = -53, Constant = 123, monochrome unchecked. Deselect text, and follow steps for transparency.

    option C)

    2myWelcome1.gif

    I created option C to have more of a carved effect by repeating step 6 (created another layer, and did the same cut out level) and by having a drop shadow of white instead of black.

    option D)

    2MyWelcome7.gif

    Option D was creating by the following changes~
    Follow tutorial steps through to step 8 (minus step 9 and on, that is).
    Go up to Selections, deselect text. Look at your layer palette.

    2togglelayerpal.gif

    Click the little eyeglasses on the first (background) layer, making it invisible.
    Then, go to LAYERS-->MERGE-->MERGE VISIBLE
    Go to your layer palette, click on the eyeglasses again for background layer, making it visible.
    Go up to LAYERS-->NEW RASTER LAYER. Name this one 'dingbat'. Did you look at the tutorial intro for text effects? If not, do that now, reading about dingbats. I'm going to use one called 'Heiroglyphs' I downloaded from Font Garden.
    Follow the rest of tutorial above up till layers merge, there first using eyeglasses toggle in your layer palette, make the background layer and Welcome text merged layer invisible, then up to LAYERS-->MERGE-->MERGE VISIBLE. Your dingbat should still be selected at this point.
    Go up to COLORS-->COLORIZE. Play around until the selected dingbat has an interesting color you like.
    Make the rest of the layers visible again. Drag and drop in layer palette the merged text layer to fall on top of the dingbat layer. Merge all flatten, follow rest of tutorial for cropping and making transparent.

    Option E)

    2MyWelcome4.gif

    Option E is the exact same tutorial, in every way but using 'Parchment' as the font. A gorgeous font! So you can see that Egyptian Gold doesn't have to be so Egyptian.

    The one currently at top of previous post tutorial (and of this page)has a peice of clipart (I made from a dingbat called 'Pretty Pots') and was altered (option) image made from this same tutorial, by pasting the pot onto it's own layer and dragging that layer under the Welcome text one when finished positioning it.
