It has been a long while since I've read my first volume in the Camebrige Series on Japan (I have 5 of the 6 volumes) and I don't remember, but did Queen Himiko rule before the Yamato State or somewhere at the very beginning? Actually if I remember the word actually used, I think it was Yamatai; is this the same time period?

Also (since I am not high enough to start a new thread anyway) I did have another question concerning the early power and politics of the rulers then....If I am not mistaken, did not the rulers have both divine and secular power or were they just mainly ritual with the power in the Uji rather than the ruler his or herself?
