    The desire to control is a powerful one. However, doesn't the desire for control stem from a belief in one's own superiority? That feeling of superiority is based on Pride, which I still believe was Melkor's downfall. His pride would not allow anyone, even Illuvator, to stand above him. Since he was superior to all else, the proof of that superiority would be in control of them. Just a thought.
