How to get started on these boards can be daunting at first -- I think it took me nearly 3 months of surfing AS before I posting my first opening. At that was only at some very, um....what's the word....persistent prodding by friends.

A good thing to do is once you've chosen a board to write on, contact the group leader and a few of the members who are writing regularly. Ask them if there is a good way to get started on the board -- they may a few suggestions to put you into the existing storyline.

Some people write differently when it comes to their characters. Some have the entire history of their character mapped out and use that as a resource tool. Here is a basic page of what I gave my residents of Iunu in Qenbet to get started. None of it is mandatory, but it gets you thinking about your character and how they would react to situations.

    Character Development

Answer the following questions about your character.

Why is this important? When writing about your character or your story, you must know exactly how s/he will react in a situation. To do this, you must work out where they came from so they can move forward into any story.

There are many more questions that could be asked about your character and all of the above DO NOT have to be answered. This is just a guideline to get you started discovering who are you and where you are going. Remember, the more information you can give yourself, the more possibilities you open for Role Play.
