    We modern folks want stability, and I guess that was true about the Romans too, and all ancients, much of the time. At least many of the philosophies of that time were more or less based on the admiration for stability (both ontological and ethical).

    So - what was the most stable kind of life one could have in Republican Rome or Imperial Rome?
