Go to File/ Export, and choose either jpg- or gif-optimizer, and a saving-"wizard" will appear. Choose gif if you want to have transparent background, and there either choose the color to be transparent (=background color), or the Existing image transparency, if your image already has a transparent bg. You can choose other thing like tolerance etc, but I find it best to learn by experimenting... it's not gonna explode!
