True, that is the basis of Socrates' conversation with Euthyprho, but it is not answering the question he asks. Euthyphro says he knows he is doing the pious thing because it is favored by the gods. However, Socrates points out that there is a problem with that. To simplify his question: do the gods love what is good because it is the right thing to do, or is it pious because it is what the gods love doing? For example, if Zeus enjoys philandering and sleeping with other women, does that mean, according to Euthyphro's argument, it is a pious thing, because Zeus favors infidelity?
