An Duong Vuong, founder of the Viet kingdom of Au Lac (c 210-179 BC). His actual name was Thuc Phan; thus the period of his reign was sometimes called the Thuc Dynasty. An Duong Vuong was probably a historical figure, distantly related to the former ruling clan of Shu in Sichuan, who ruled a small territory between the Red River delta and the Chinese states to the north. He led an army, possibly composed of Au Viet refugees from Qin attacks, against the Lac Viet state of Van Lang, overthrew the last Hung Vuong ("Hung King"), and established the kingdom of Au Lac. A vast new capital was built at Co Loa by his orders. He supposedly committed suicide after Au Lac was absorbed by Nanue sometime after 180 BC.
