THE LARGEST FRESHWATER FISH IN THE WORLD, well, at least one of them, not only lives in South America, but is an excellent sport fish and food fish. Though the argument is always hotly contended by natives of both lands, the Russian Sturgeon and the South American Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas picture 1, picture 2) leave the others behind with their measurements of 15 feet. I propose we visit one of its haunts in our fishing trip. This fish lives in the Ucayali River on the southeastern edge of the Peruvian Andes, as well as the Amazon further to the east and north. In the same river (and its attached lakes) is this monster's little brother. The Arahuana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) which, though smaller at 4 feet, is a superior eating fish. Heck, excluding those two, there are some really bizarre fish and some excellent eating ahead of us.
