One of the things I learned way back when in first year Latin was traditional
English songs translated into Latin. Seeing as how this is the "Taberna Latina,"
I thought good drinking songs (well, kinda) would be appropriate. Obviously, some
of the songs have been edited from the original English for the sake of measure
and rhyme.
Mica, Mica, Parva Stella! (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
Mica, Mica, Parva Stella
Miror quaenam sis, tam bella.
Splendens eminus in illo,
Alba velut gemma caelo.
Mica, mica, parva stella,
Miror quaenam sis, tam bella.
Duc, Duc, Remos Duc (Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Duc, duc, remos duc, flumine secundo;
Vivitur, vivitur, vivitur, vivitur,
Velut in somnio.
Unus, Duo, Tres Romani (One Little, Two Little, Three Little Romans)
Unus, duo, tres Romani
Quottuor, quinque, sex Romani,
Septem, octo, novem Romani,
Decem parvi Romani!
Tres Mures (Three Blind Mice)
Tres mures, tres mures,
En Fugiunt, en fugiunt
Nam omnes secuti sunt rusticam
Quae caudas cultello desecuit,
Sane facinus insolitissimum,
O tres mures.
Horatius Villam Habet, ee-i, ee-i, o! (Old MacDonald/Horatius Had a Farm, ee-i, ee-i, o!)
Horatius villam habet, ee-i, ee-i, o!
Et in villa equum habet, ee-i, ee-i, o!
Cum neigh, neigh hic,
Cum neigh, neigh illic,
Hic neigh, illic neigh
Undique neigh, neigh,
Horatius villam habet, ee-i, ee-i, o!
(Repeat: vaccam/moo, ovem/baa, murem/squeak, pullum/cluck, porcum/oink,
canem/woof, felem/meow
