In 1908-12 the Canadian scientist and explorer Vilhjálmur Stefánsson made an exploration to the north-westerly coast of Canada to find "blond" Inuits. His theory of Canada's "blond" Iniuts should be descendants of Northeners (Vikings). A documentary entitled Arctic Dreamer, quotes Stefánsson's journals on the meeting of three blue-eyed Inuits. The documentary premieres Friday September 4 at the Montreal Film Festival.
The Icelanders Gisli Pállson and Agnar Helgason took saliva samples from 350 Inuits in Canada and Greenland. They have been comparing them with genetic markers known to have been prevalent in medieval Scandinavia. The results will be released in October.
