    Max...I doubt that any emperor would be accused of undue modesty, right? Besides, the right of propaganda seemed to be considered inherent in the job description of ruler...look at how both the Egyptians and the Hittites claimed, publicly and carving on great slabs of stone, that they each won the same battle!

    However, I'm still drooling at the prospect of this fantasy...it would have been very interesting to have Augustus' own spin on events and people, and great fun to read between the lines. I, for example, would love to know how he justified what seems to be hypocrisy of the first order when he banished Iulia, his daughter, for going a little hog-wild, when he himself, apparently, had a, er, lust for life.
