This one bothers me more than almost everyone else combined . . . we have multiple confirmations that Augustus wrote an autobiography. Why on earth would it have been lost when so much else was saved? I can only think of political reasons . . . that later Emperors, for whatever reason, felt Augustus' statements would impinge on their actions or make them look bad, and hence, a burning of the scrolls. I want to wail whenever I think of it - can you IMAGINE having a lengthy story in Augustus' own words of his own life??
