I have to comment on something you said... don't stay out of everybody's way whilst you are trying to find your way around... On the contrary! Make yourself heard! You can always gram one of the scribes if you need help or advice and of course you can also use the grams just for chatting and making new friends.

You should take your time exploring the many things this site has to offer, but as you explicetely mentioned your interest in the Visigoths and the Germanic Migrations I feel I should point out, that we have a group in Germania that deals exactly with this part of history - The Wanderings of the Tribes.
