I already mentioned this book of Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas, “Dynamics of the Unconscious”. In one of the chapters, Liz deals with depression, that she relates with the alchemical process of “nigredo”, translating it by “blackness”… an important process in the alchemical process of gold transformation… the parallel with human involvement can be interesting. Also, the archetypal images that comes up from pathological depressing patients dreams and so, are related to decomposition, putrescence (wow, what a joyful talk!!), corpses, skulls… actually, we could relate all this images with an initiation rite.
