Your Ollamh here in Albion have encouraged me to continue. So be it. The Three Fates will be my guide, will bare me safely to hither shore, over these deep poetic waters, like rainwater gathered in the hoof-print of a Nightmare, I might drown?
The Hammer and Thunder
(continued)
One tooth and one eye
served the 'Grey Ones'
a flight of cranes flew
to the East
and another formation
to the West
telling the Arch-Druid
Perseus came to own
the winged sandal of Hermes
and the bag with the Gorgon's head
was hung around his neck
Donning Mercury's helmut
of invisibility
the Shrouded Ones gave him the power
to take omens from the flights of birds
To understand the alphabetic secret
of the cranes.
A tooth he put under Fionns thumb
and partook of the salmon of knowlege
Sweet Carmenta
gave him thirteen consonants
keeping five vowels for herself
in her crane bag.
And away Perseus flew
with a moon-shaped sickle
to cut the mistletoe
the first twig
from the Grove
wence flew the name
of a precious Dove
to alight upon the horn
of the Nightmare
where is stored the
five left-over days
of the five season calendar -
and I am awake
