You have asked a good question, and, someday it will be answered when my epic verse is complete? And, perhaps I am not the one to complete it?
My delema is twofold, and very complex. You see, my ancestor Marcomir IV, King of the Franks married in 129 A.D. Athildis, daughter of Coilus King of the Britains. You know him as King Cole. Through this marriage the blood of the ancient Roman houses of the Julii and Claudii, as well as the ancient Royal lines of the Silures, become mixed with the ancient Merovingian line. Coilus was the son of Marius, King of the British Silures and a daughter of Boadicia, the great Queen of the Iceni. Do you follow? Anyway, Marius was the son of Arviragus, King of the Silures and Venissa, daughter of Claudius I, Emperor of Rome. A son was born of this union: Pharabert.
Now, in my Ogham poem I am discribing the Dactyles who were the attendants of the infant Zeus in a cave on Crete. They taught the foundling child the Tree Alphabet. Here is the crux of my problem. My Roman ancestors believe the Dactyles are the Corybantes, while my Cimmerian kin of Antatolia believe they are the Curetes. Seeing that I am of the bloodline of all three, if I make my Dactyles too much like the Corybantes, this may result in bloodshed.
To make matters worse, I just married Argotta, the Cambrian Princess, whose tribe appears to be the same as the Cimmerians, or the Cimri, who are mentioned in the Torah, or Bible, as descendents of Gomer. This union has awaken the interest of the Pope who is trying to make an alliance with the Franks, something I am not too fond to consider, as their version of the Foundling is too....
Well......Now you see why I work on my poem secretly, while at sea, away from courtly intrigues and foreign armies who beg me to lead them into battle against people I am related to. I am a born diplomat, rather then a poet. I ponder how to please everyone most hours of my day.
