"I am not caused by my history--my parents, my childhood and development. These are mirrors in which I may catch glimpses of my image."- James Hillman

Well, this is a quite different approach from "traditional" freudian psychanalyse!

Archetypal Astrology is based in the work of Jungian Psychology -according to Jung, all humans have their personal story rooted in a deep, impersonal layer, that could be described as a "creative force", out of which emerges myths, symbols, images, dreams and fantasies. Those myths, images and dreams make part of our common heritage and they compose the material from where "archetypes" are made.

The idea is simply that by studying those myths and symbols, we will learn more about us - not only as individuals but as part of a collective voice, that can share all the assimilated experiences from all those that have gone before us. This symbolic material gives expression to much of what we are all about (whatever this means!) and most of the times it's fighting to have its own voice, we are only too much distracted or busy to listen to our inner voices!

(this is not going to be, by no means, a complete, penetrating study on archetypes! Jungian Psychology is a vast and complex subject and requires much "digging")
