I was helping a friend tonight and discovered this site, which compares the ancient Maya language to Egyptian.
C. Johnson uses books written by Linda Schele and Petter Mathews (The Code of Kings), and E.A. Wallis Budge (An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary) to come up with this intriguing essay.
A short sampling~
MAYA: Itz'at (learned one, sage)
EGYPTIAN: Itaa (one who knows)
MAYA: Uh (moon)
EGYPTIAN: Utcha-t, Uhem qai, Ah (moon)
MAYA: Nichim (flowers)
EGYPTIAN: Nehem (bud, flower)
MAYA: Itz (nectar, tree sap, morning dew)
EGYPTIAN: It (dew)
MAYA: Way (to dream)
EGYPTIAN: Uaa (think, meditate)
