Haakon's ship glided gracefully into the harbor at Dunwic. He was directed to a quay, and as his ship neared it, he jumped onto land and watched as his men secured the ship. They worked quickly and efficiently, each man chosen for his skill with a ship almost as much as his skill with a sword.

With Thorir and Eirik close behind, Haakon strode down the docks to where another man stood directing traffic. Towering above the man, Haakon tapped him politely on the shoulder. The man turned, obviously annoyed at the disturbance. But the size of the man before him, coupled with the ease with which he carried not only his sword but also the great axe made the man bite his tongue. Haakon noted the man's control. "Can you tell me where to find Ragnar Eriksson? I am sure he is expecting me."

The man nodded, his eyes indicating his understanding that Haakon was someone of some importance. "He is with his father and grandfather having a discussion. Are you familiar with Dunwic?" Seeing the hesitation in Haakon, the man motioned over a boy. "He will lead you. He knows where they are."

"Many thanks, my friend," Haakon exclaimed clapping the man on the shoulder and nearly sending him sprawling. Returning to his ship, Haakon gave orders that once the ship and supplies were secured, a regular guard was to be set on the ship, but the rest of the men were to follow him into town. Then, he and Thorir and Eirik followed the lad into town. Soon, they approached a longhouse, obviously well made and important. The boy led them directly to it. "They are inside," the boy said curtly. Haakon nodded his thanks, gave direction that the boy should lead his other men here as well, and then dismissed the boy.

The three men walked into the longhouse and let their eyes adjust. Haakon quickly found Ragnar in the longhouse. While they were not necessarily the best of friends, they were acquainted and got along reasonably well. They had never quarelled at least, and that was a good sign. Ragnar was obviously in an intense discussion with his father and grandfather, so Haakon and the others moved closer to them, without causing much of a disturbance. Ragnar and his kin would finish soon enough, and then they would talk about what was to come!
