Back last year, there was a nice little program on The Learning Channel (TLC) on cable entitled "Atlantis in the Andes." This was right about the time that a book came out of the same title and it followed the author of that book through his theories and pretty much showed him as the fool that he is. His claim, based mostly on his imagination, was that Atlantis was actually located in the Andes, in the area of Lake Titicaca. Really.
One of the parts was a lagoon/harbor that was, to the author, going on aerial photos, "obviously man-made." Yeah it was. On site investigation showed it was an evaporation pond for a mining operation. Laugh? I thought I'd die. Even better was a poster at the Ancient/Classical History forum at About.com who bought into this totally. He claimed to have "advanced degrees in history", but never would provide info on just what history or from where. He left in a huff when confronted with just how absurd the whole idea was. He is still posting on various Delphi fora and does his best to ignore any suggestion that he was that stupid.
