Eudemonia is the term that was usable from the early Stoic era, by addressing a summun bonum, which comprise all the divine qualities and in addition the human deeds, when are not based to the evilness and the bad lack. Thus, eudemonia (ευ + δαίμων) is a absolute tenure which can be known by the current perception throughout the experience and the derivation of its maturity.

The new political moralities that were in existence throughout the Hellenistic era (323 – 32 BCE) had an effect to the culture and the different spiritual movements. The polis is not anymore the core of the human existence, but the individual as such; the polis-state is the international community. It is true that the Cynics first establish the individual experience. For the Stoics eudemonia was not a matter of the polis but for its individual, an esoteric deed. The Stoics had in matter maintained a number of theirs ancient doctrines. Hence, the Stoics introduce eudemonia as εύροια βίου (S.V.F., I, 46, 16.), as proper living, which was based to the “κατά φύσην” (S.V.F., III, 16, 29.). Eudemonia is also for the Stoics a stage of the soul, which can produce independency by its virtues, which also can be its distinctive elements. It is furthermore an absolute ending, which can be reached through wisdom and the just.

By having, as known the Stoics’ pantheistic believes, edified that the eudemonia is not reachable only by the Gods but additionally by the human beings. Beyond of a truthful life the Stoics connected the eudemonia with the virtuousness. But virtue is the eudemonia as achievement. Eudemonia is the end of a by nature, by virtue and by logos action.

    Nikolaos Cleomenes.
