    Marduk is Liberated!

    Nabu, assisted by other gods, liberates Marduk by force from the mountain of the Netherworld!

    On this Seventh day, Re-enactments of Nabu liberating Marduk from his captivity took place.

    "The door with aperture;
    (that means the gods confined him)

    he entered into the house and before him one locked the door.

    They bored holes into the door and there they waged battle."

    On cylinder seals of the third millennium, the liberation of a god from a mountain is shown. The liberator is Ninurta, holding a bow, with a goddess in attendance. If one happens by the "live" performance of this day of Akitu, one will see that the spirit of this liberation was maintained.

    For Marduk was to be victorious and so hailed on the next day, and to do this, he had to be free to act.
