On the fourth day, three and a third hours before the end of the night, the urigallu shall rise and wash himself with water from the river; he shall put on a linen garment; before Bel and Belit, he shall address this incantation to Bel; he shall utter this prayer to Bel: Most mighty lord of the Igigi, most exalted of the great gods, Lord of the regions, king of the gods, Marduk, who dost fix the destinies, Glorious, exalted, most high prince; Who holdest the kingship, possessest the lordship; Gleaming light, Marduk dwelling in E-ud-ul; Who dost overwhelm with a flood the land of the enemies. Who dost pass through the heavens, dost heap up the earth; Who dost measure the waters of the sea, who dost cause the fields to be tilled; Dwelling in E-ud-ul, Marduk the exalted; Fixing the destinies of all the gods; Who gives the holy scepter to the king who fears thee. I am the urigallu of E-kua who blesses thee; Be gracious to thy city, Babel; Have mercy on thy temple, Esagila! At thy exalted word, lord of the great gods, May the light shine upon the children of Babel! He shall go out from before Bel then recite this prayer to Belit: She is mighty, she is divine, she is exalted among the goddesses; Sarpanit, the brightest of the stars, dwelling in E-ud-ul, The...of the goddesses, clothed with light; Who dost pass through the heavens, dost heap up the earth; Sarpanit whose dwelling is exalted; Shining Belit, exalted and most high; Among the goddesses there is none like her.. She accuses and intercedes. She abases the rich and vindicates the cause of the lowly; She overthrows the enemy, he who does not revere her godhead; She delivers the captive, and takes the hand of the fallen; Bless the servant who honors my name; Fix the destiny of the king who fears thee; Give life to the children of Babel, thy dependents.. Plead for them before Marduk, the king of the gods; Let them tell of thy glory, let them exalt thy kingdom; Let them speak of thy prowess, let them glorify thy name; Have mercy on thy servant who blesses thee; Take his hand in need and suffering; In disease and distress give him life; May he go ever in joy and delight; May he tell thy prowess to the peoples of the whole world. He goes out into the great court and takes up his stand facing north; he blesses Esagila three times with these words: Star Iku, Esagila, image of heaven and earth! He opens the doors, all the priests shall enter; they shall carry out their customary rituals; likewise the kalu-priests and singers. When he has done that, after the little meal at the end of the day, the urigallu of E-kua shall recite to Bel, Enuma Elish the Creation Epic, from beginning to end. While he does so the crown of Anu and the throne of Enlil shall remain covered.
