Just to let you all know that I have been in contact with Marco Berni, the founder of Imperium and the main author of its Rules.
Here is the e-mail I sent him…
Marco,
hope you're keeping well and are enjoying life!
This is just a note to let you know we've now formally abandoned Imperium - with deep regret from all concerned of course, but most of us just couldn't face all the admin. It's a great game - if only it could become a MMPORG!
You'll see from the Group board that we're discussing a possible much simplified 4th century game and are forming a new group for discussion of the potential rules.
I attach a copy of the draft rules and my comments for your interest, and so you can see we're not just pinching Imperium's rules wholesale!
Regards
Andrew
And his reply…
Hi Andrew
Good to hear from you!
The move doesn't surprise me to be honest. I have actually been keeping an eye on the group in the last 6 months of hiatus and was pretty sure it would never resume.
I had intended to lock the group and leave it for posterity at the end of last year but didn't get around to informing you all beforehand as I was in the UK for the holidays. Not having checked it this month I have missed all the renewed activity surrounding the new group and I am grateful for you bringing me up to date on it now and in particular your suggestion that the discussion be moved off of Imperium to a new board.
I have had a quick look at the rules and of course have no objection with them whatsoever, though I would ask that a reference to where they are based on Imperium be included as you mention the old game in your comments.
Let me have the address of the new group and I will pop in and say hi. Not sure I'll have time to play, but you never know for sure.
Feel free to post this at the Imperium board (or whatever) and once you are all off it I will move in and change member levels etc to leave the boards untouched from here on in. This may require deletion of some of the Gen Disc posts of late, which if necessary I will ask you and your members to help me with.
Lastly, I would like to write up a closing post of Imperium's past history and what it meant for me, and perhaps if any of you would like to add your memories and feelings for posterity that would be nice.
Anyway, best of luck with Lustrum!
Ave atque Vale!
Caius Livius Drusus (Marco)
