I've been arguing with a friend about the difference between "warrior cultures" and "civilization" and whether one is like the other or totally different. I got part-way through Beowulf and I must admit, I got a little freaked with the constant references to blood, cuts, death, destruction, slashing, slavering, killing, murdering, battering, and more. All I can think of is that, in that culture, violence was so totally an approved and necessary part of life that you might as well glorify the courage that supported it. What do you all think? Frankly, I find it very NON_civilized, however necessary! And I apologize if this makes anyone mad *s*
