I think, Heraklia, that you have to be an adult or a special kind of reader these days to appreciate Sutcliff, and more's the pity. She is just out of fashion, as is another favourite of mine, Henry Treece. As for Keeping, he was among the greats, and he really clicked with Sutcliff, as he did with Treece. He died from a brain tumour in 1988 at the age of 64. The last two books he illustrated were 'Frankenstein' (1988)and 'Dracula' (1988) for Blackie in UK and Peter Bedrick in USA. There is an illustrated biography of him by Douglas Martin -- 'Charles Keeping: an illustrator's life'(1993).
