Hong Kong cinema, Bollywood, Akira Kurosawa's masterpeices, or just Hollywood films of Asian stories, these films amaze us and brought many of us to the doorsteps of The Orient in search of likeminded friends with that visual inspiration! I'll have a new review up later today, but in the meanwhile, I wanted to share those two teaser trailers recently made public for two period movies out next month in their respective countries

The one most talked about is probably The Sword with no Name, from Korean director Yong-gyun Kim and starring Su Ae and Jo Seung-woo; I think it looks pretty fantastic. It is set in mid-19th century and will be released on September 30 in Korea:

The other one is called Ballad: 名もなき恋のうた ("Ballad: Nameless Love Song") and is an adaptation of.....Crayon Shin-chan (All I can say is....whut? I would NEVER have guessed based on the trailer....). It's directed by Takashi Yamazaki and stars Yui Aragaki and Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (of SMAP fame; he was the one arrested in Japan for being drunk and naked in a public parc last spring *whistle*). It's set in the Sengoku period, but involves a little boy time-travelling, apparently. Release is scheduled for September 5 in Japan

I must say I find this one far less convincing (if only because I really don't like the inclusion of generic pop ballads in just about every trailer in Japan these days, even if it really doesn't work with the scenes shown) but it's only a teaser, so definitive judgement will have to wait until the dvd is released there....
