Beyond the household paddock's fence,
Fens and firths and forests hence,
Within a palisade's defense,
An isle lay still in misty waters.
From isle to Aillse, stretched high and sleeping,
Rocks the faithless Bridge of Leaping.
Lives of men its chasm reaping,
Unmet by Macha's martial daughters.
Across the Bridge dwell maids untame
Whose feats The Hound won hero-fame.
To Dunscaith’s hills he gave his name.
Then off to Emer, for he missed her.
Since Cúchulainn’s day, young men
Have ventured out to Sgaith again,
To learn the Feats within the glen
From the Shadow Branch’s sister.
