J Vint et al have identified an irrigation system at Las Capas on the banks of the Santa Cruz River. The community was inhabited from ca 1200-800 BC.This discovery dates irrigation in this region about 1000 years early than previous research had indicated. The residents were not able to reconstruct the settlement after a massive flood ca 800 Bc.There were at least seven other villages along the the river, which appear to have irrigated their crops at that time.
