If you happen to be on the lookout for a really smashing , up-to-date decorative detail for your DOMUS, this is what I would recommend : a nice Greek marble relief ( the sort called typos) to insert into your wall...
In The National Archaeological Museum of Naples there had been going on from Oct.2008 an important exhibition dedicated to 'Three centuries of discoveries' in Ancient Herculaneum and running until now, April 13 . In Feb. a previously unknown marble relief was uncovered by accident during maintenance work in a building on the northwest block of the buried town, which has only been partly excavated so far. The new treasure was sent to Naples on March 17 to join the exhibition, stirring up a great deal of fresh interest. What a lucky coincidence !
Interesting information (in English and Italian) can be found on the site Blogging Pompeii and don't forget to click on the picture for the details! A few days later they had on their blog an absolutely fascinating You-Tube video from an Italian archaeologist. The second birth of a work of art!
As far as I can see, we have still no official interpretation of the 'story' that is being reproduced on the relief. One hypothesis is suggested by David M. at rogueclassicism.
