Thus Caesar could see that the Veneti had been added by the Celtic Belgae of Britain, the tribes of southern Britain now realized that they were lying dangerously poised on the edge of a great Mediterranean Empire with an invincible warrior-general at its helm, with the Roman conquest of Gaul, the Romans now faced them across the Channel with naval supremacy, the southern tribes fear that Caesar might stage punitive raids or a full-scale invasion. Luckily however, Caesar, although needing military glory, also needed time to consolidate his conquest of Gaul, while political conditions in Rome made it inadvisable for him to be away from Italy for too long.
