And just in time for Imbolc! Rowan is one of Brighid's trees, along with Oak. As Withell pointed out in his post to this thread last year, Brighid's fiery arrows are said to be made of rowan wood. In some legends she carries a rowan wand. To this day in Ireland and some parts of Scotland, mothers hang a cross of rowan over their babies' cradle and recite a prayer to Brighid for protection of the children. The red berries of rowan are called Caora Teine ("fire sparkle") in Irish.
