The Juturnalia (January 11) honored a nymph who presided over various wells and springs in Latium, including the one in the Forum that came to be called the Lacus Iuturnae. Water from this pool was used in official sacrifices in Rome, and Juturna thus played an important role in the Roman religion. The sacrifices offered to nymphs consisted of goats, lambs, milk, and oil, but never of wine.
