Building on the work of an amateur metal detectorist, archaeologists have uncovered clear evidence of a sizable Roman-German battle that ended in an apparent Roman victory far east of the Rhine. [This is a different battlefield from the Teutoburger Wald site that was located in the late 1980's and 1990's.) This one may be a battle that occurred on a campaign launched by the short-lived Emperor Maximinus Thrax around 233 C.E. Here's a link to an excellent article (surprisingly, from a newspaper in Abu Dhabi) about the discovery.
