Without realizing it, Publius Decius Subulo had unconsciously crossed his legs in an attempt to protect himself from any possibility of enduring the same fate as the one ascribed to the plantiff by Agrippa in this case.
"Lucius Vipsanius Agrippa, really!" chided Subulo. "Your claims are most, well extraordinary! Do you propose that we have both the subjects of your lurid tale strip naked to verify the gruesome details of your account?"
Almost as soon as he had said it, Subulo recognized that he had blundered by doing so. The magnitude of the blunder was reinforced by the turmoil which broke out from among the rabble observing the trial from the sidelines, as citizen jostled citizen for an optimal view of the "evidence" when it was finally presented. "Order! ORDER!" shouted Subulo. "The testimony phase of this trial is now concluded. No further testimony or argument, no matter how sensational or pertinent!" Edepol! thought Subulo to himself, how in hades did I get myself into this mess? "ORDER!"
It took some time, but the crowd finally settled down. When he could finally be heard, Subulo addressed the jury. "Men of the jury. You have heard the testimony and arguments presented today, much of it" now glaring at Agrippa, "in excruciating detail. Deliberate among yourselves, and advise me of your verdict."
Without realizing it, Subulo had crossed his legs again.
