SALVE Marcus Tullius Cicero
Old colleague. We haven’t written or chatted since the day after I departed Rome when Caesar crossed the Rubicon. Fateful day, because so much changed after that. As you know, much water has gone under the bridge.I have been lucky to have my family so close, all things considered.
I am returning to Rome, expanding family in tow. No doubt you know that I have ended up with the daughter of Cato. How Cornelia initially took it, I have no idea, considering her background. However she is loyal and capable, and whatever her blood made her feel, she did what was necessary by the time I was involved. I doubt she would have done much differently. But you know how that is with Terentia.
I plan to meet you, Brutus, and a few others when I arrive. I want it done quietly though. No fuss. No chatter. You like to chatter, and I would prefer if you didn’t say too much at this time. Certain factions in Rome need to be kept guessing. Oh, I know Caesar has his watchers out, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a few people locally keeping a watch- Cornelia is too careful to let him infiltrate the household, but the country can’t be locked down.
We have much to talk about.
