I can understand the frustrations of paying that amount of money and having the site go poof. However, Cybersites LLC is dead. You didnt expect any of the other spine off sites to honor your patronship, you cant expect the new site to either. (IMHO)
The net is organic, sites appear and disappear, before making a financial investment in any site you have to face that fact. Thats why pay per play is more attractive, you only pay for what you are currently using.
Another example, Livejournal.com. They sell special "memberships" for a small fee. They also offer "lifetime memberships" on a very very limited basis, they only release 25 of them at a time, and 6 months apart or so. Is this site stable? sortof, doesnt mean it couldnt go away at anytime though. Why by a membership for life then? Because people understand the financial struggles a site can go through, and want to help the site remain stable as long as they can. They support the work the people running the site are doing and hope by making a financial contribution, they will see the site remain around that much longer. Does it mean that this site could go up in the air? Sure. Does it mean if the founder of LJ went to work somewhere else they should demand lifetime memberships to whatever site he was now working/running? No.
I guess bottom line is, Enjoy it while its here, enjoy it for what it is, a new entity with similarities to the old site we used to know and love. Dont hold expectations of what should or should not be based on a dead companies promises.
