Periodically, I like to check in on the website of Edward J. Waddell, Ltd. to browse their offerings of ancient and medieval coins. The photographs are usually of high quality, and you can click on them to see enlargements. Currently, they're offering six Byzanntine gold coins, of which my favorite is one that depicts the Emperor Constans II with both a beard and a Salvador Dali-style mustache. Click here to see all six of these coins.
Edward Waddell is also offering two Byzantine silver coins at the moment. Take note, Basileos -- one of them is an interesting early coin from the Empire of Trebizond. Alas, because it's rare and of an unusually excellent state of preservation, it would set you back almost $4,000 to buy it. The other is another interesting coin -- in this case, one of the Emperor Basil II. Click here to see these two silver coins.
