The Republic Reborn
The Gracchi, Champions of the Plebs, lie dead. Marius, Sulla, the great names of known history shall never come to prominence here. Will you take their role in history?

Lepidus was quite shocked of his loss in the College of Pontiffs in the hands of the Patricians, but Iulius Curius Marcellus nevertheless was a brilliant man, indeed! He now had a sense of deep duty; not that he was very religious or intricately tied with the tradition of Rome. Had Lucretius been born earlier, he would be his most avid reader (as the author can state, both his and the authors’ tastes would then meet!); Lepidus however had none of the genial defense of materialism of the philosophers. All he had, was a scroll or two of Epicurus in his library; and in the times of Rome, who didn’t?

Now, on to the point! Lepidus indeed made some unfortunate declarations, but he was an Eques from Capua at the time. Equites were heard saying the most preposterous things! Indeed, for every time the Commander hears their word in battle, as they are on horse, he knows that their lousy performance is as high in the degree of the obtuse and useless as their foul mouths are. And now? He was a Senator! An honorable man, who accepted with a cold and dignified manner his defeat, like any Roman should! Nay, nobody ever knew that he declared to Curius that he was an avowed atheist! During his passage through the Senate, the Assemblies and the Games, he always strived for a dignified and even religious image. If seen from distance, he was the perfect portrait so far, or that was what he thought!

So, Lepidus decides in the best manner that it is time for him to try again. And hard! He knew much about augurship, he had a book on it; certainly a brief revision to get the dust off and a few more clues would be in order? Yes! Iulius Curius Marcellus was now a genius, for something inside Lepidus now compelled him to stand for the Religious Office. It was preposterous, of course, but it was duty. The sacred duty to Rome! Lepidus felt proud of himself, and wrote a brief letter to Magister Collegi’s representative Sextus Agrippa Rufus, announcing his intention to become part of the College of Augurs. May the Gods bless him in this venture… or may the votes be favorable if they are deaf!

OOC Comment: Gaius Licinius Lepidus announces his intention to run for Plebeian Augur with the recent resignation of Quintus Vitulus Flaminius.
