    In 9 CE, the Cherusci lead by Arminius liquidated 3 Roman legions under the command of Publius Quinctilius Varus in Teutobarger Wald. How and why did it happen? ...

    In response to the statement that the exact location of where Varus's legions were wiped out is unknown, I believe that the site has been located and some excavation has been done. Also, I believe that when Germanicus returned to the area and wiped out the Cherusci, he found at least one of the Eagles which had been buried to hide it.
