I have just received this book:

Genesis of East Asia 221 BC - AD 907

I haven't read it yet but, based on all the positive reviews I've seen out there, in particular in specialized publications, I am definitely looking forward to it. Note that this is not a straightforward, textbook history of the region but more of a research book - so it's probably not where you want to start if you're new to Asian history....At any rate, I'll post a review once I'm finished reading it (and hopefully an article or two based on it, if I am not feeling TOO lazy AND can find the time)
