In 1998-2000 the Swedish author and journalist Jan Guillou published the triology about Arn Magnusson and his fiancee Cecilia in 12th century. Arn Magnusson and Cecilia are fictional characters, but the triology is based on historical events in Västgötaland in Sweden and in the Middle East.

The triology deals with the early development of the Swedish kingdom, the influence of Christianity in Sweden, especially monastic life, Knights Templars and crusades in the Middle east, Arabic, Templar and Viking combat techniques (sword, archery, horses etc.).

The books are well written, full of action, intrigues and excitement. The triology is a good and vivid introduction to medieval Sweden.
